Optional Services
Optional Services requires a unique identification of every Optional Service within a carrier’s data and across all carriers. Every Optional Service is uniquely identified by the combination of a carrier code (industry standard alphanumeric) and sub code (3-byte alphanumeric assigned by ATPCO or by the carrier).
The sub code may be defined by a specific carrier for the carrier’s own use or defined by ATPCO for industry use. The purpose of an industry standard structure for naming and qualifying optional services is to support:
Consistent display and pricing between carriers
Consistent display and pricing across all pricing systems
Standard ticketing
Standard reporting
Each sub code is identified as industry defined (ATPCO standard) or carrier defined and uniquely distinguished based on identifiers assigned to each service. These identifiers are known as the services attributes.
