Optional Services
Each sub code will be identified as industry defined (ATPCO standard) or carrier defined and uniquely distinguished based on the following attributes:
Group—The group is used to identify like types of services for processing, display, and selection. Examples of groups include: Meal/Beverage, In-flight Entertainment, Baggage, Rule Override, and Upgrades. Every Optional Service must have a sub code and every sub code (whether industry or carrier defined) must be associated to a group.
Sub Group—Within each group, specific sub groups may be identified to further describe the service represented by the sub code. For example, the group might be Meal/Beverage with a sub group Breakfast.
Descriptions—Descriptions provide a very specific definition of the group and sub group. One to two descriptions may be present for each service and all description codes are valid for use with all group and sub groups. For the purposes of Baggage Charges, the descriptions shall be used to identify a code that represents the weights and sizes of the baggage that can be assessed a charge. Further, special items will be identified with a code specified in the descriptions (e.g., description code "12" may represent golf clubs).
For industry defined sub codes, ATPCO will identify the attributes. All carriers can use the industry sub codes, but edits prohibit any change to the attributes. Industry-defined sub codes shall be used for any Baggage services that are applied on interline travel.
For carrier defined sub codes, carriers will identify the attributes at the time of initial creation of the sub code. The sub code and its associated attributes are only applicable to the carrier that creates the sub code.
The diagram below illustrates the proposed group, sub groups, and description values as well as the hierarchical relationship among these attributes.
This diagram is a representation of available Optional Services attributes and codes. It is not a complete list.
